# Eli Lilly just took an equity stake in Oura

> Eli Lilly just took an equity stake in Oura this month, and I think it's one of the more interesting big pharma moves into digital health because Lilly gets retention and behavioral data leverage without ever touching the biometric data itself.

Eli Lilly just took an equity stake in Oura this month.

It's really a nice synergy: more than 100,000 Oura members have already logged GLP-1 use in the app, and Oura shipped a dedicated GLP-1 Insights companion in May that maps biometric trends against logged medication use.

This wasn't their first move in this area: GLP-1 Insights in May. Free Oura sizing kits for LillyDirect customers in June. Equity in July.

Put it next to Lilly's other moves: LillyDirect took them into telehealth and fulfillment. The $1B NVIDIA co-innovation lab took them into compute. Oura takes them onto the patient's finger between doses.

And what Lilly believes is clear: efficacy alone will not win the GLP-1 category, particularly with potentially dozens of China-sourced new molecules coming into the market.

Furthermore, the decades-old adherence problem still hasn't been solved. Roughly half of patients discontinue within a year. Persistence, titration, side effects, the daily behaviors around the drug.

One detail most coverage skips: both companies say no user data flows between them. Lilly gets none of the biometrics. It pays for retention anyway, and equity gives it upside in the data business without touching the data.

We've seen a lot of experiments by big pharma in the digital health and patient engagement space. This is one of the more interesting versions.
