AI vs. HCP: There have been a lot of discussions recently around the question if enabling patient interactions with GenAI is a net positive or negative. While the positive opinions were focussing on points like expanding access of healthcare without overloading our already stretched health care workers, a lot of the presumed negatives were around the lack of a "human component".
Well, it turns out sometimes machines are better at this than our overworked hospital staff, as in this study. "AI drafts deemed to be usable were rated as more empathetic than usable drafts from humans. They also had higher ratings for understandability and tone and were more likely to use language conveying positivity and affiliation with the patients."
We're clearly still in the very early stages of the AI transformation of our health care systems, these first signs are truly encouraging.
